Hello beautiful people, and welcome to part 2 of The Sound of Music comparisons!
As I explained in my last blog, one of my first and favorite childhood memories was watching The Sound of Music with my mom. So here is Part 2 of me sharing my personal relationships/comparisons with (some) of the characters in this epic love story filled with incredibly interesting characters.

I have always loved Kurt von Trapp, and he was my movie cast crush when I was a child. Kurt is about 11 years old in the movie, and is starting to question everything. He is well mannered and a respectful young boy who is always trying to act "manly" and “grown up.” Kurt is eager to be taken seriously and looks up to his older brother and father as role models. However, as much at Kurt tries to be "grown up" it obvious throughout the movie that he is still trying to "find himself," and has a lot to learn.
Even as an adult at 21 years old, I can still relate to Kurt and his desire to be "grown up." Life is brilliant and exciting, but it is also terrifying; and the idea of graduating college this May is exhilarating but also horrifying. As much as I wish I was a total "grown up" I still embrace my inner-child frequently (which is not a bad thing!) I know I still have many life lessons to learn and stories to write, but I choose to see that as a positive in my life because there is so much left of it to live.

She climbs a tree and scrapes her knee, Her dress has got a tear..... How do you solve a problem like Maria? How do you catch a cloud and pin it down? How do you find a word that means Maria? A flibbertijibbet! A will-o'-the wisp! A clown!
It is almost impossible to summarise the essence of Maria and do right by her character. However, if you haven't seen this movie, I STRONGLY suggest you give it a watch (unless you hate musicals.) It's a heartwarming classic that tells an incredibly beautiful and true story.

I specifically resonate with Maria's character in the beginning of the movie. We're both somewhat clumsy, very eager in everything we do, always singing (although she much better than me) and have been immersed in the Catholic "lifestyle."
I went to a catholic school from 4th to 8th grade, and it was a vastly different experience from my previous public schools. In comparison to Maria, I too eventually outgrew my catholic school as I got older, and I moved on to a different school in high school (which was a culture shock just like Maria's transition from the abbey to the von Trapp mansion.)
All this goes to say is The Sound of Music is an incredible musical, and you should watch it! Also, I linked one of my favorite scenes below for a little sneak peek if you're hesitant.
Love Always,
Kate
